MUSKEGON – The Reeths-Puffer boys basketball team cruised past Jenison, 60-30 in the second game of the Hall of Fame Classic on Wednesday evening.

The game was played at Reeths-Puffer High School.

Jaxson Whitaker racked up 26 points while Travis Ambrose added 16 points for Reeths-Puffer.

The Rockets raced out to a 18-9 lead after the first quarter and never looked back.

Reeths-Puffer racked up a 16-4 scoring advantage in the second stanza as Whitaker tossed in 10 points. The Rockets went into halftime with a commanding 34-13 lead.

Jenison had no defensive answers for Whitaker as he canned eight more third-quarter points and the Rockets took a 47-20 lead into the fourth quarter.

Reeths-Puffer held a 13-10 scoring advantage in the final 8 minutes.

“I thought the four-point second quarter was huge for us,” said Puffer coach Nate Aardema, whose team limited Jenison to four points in the second quarter.

“We made a couple of tweaks and the guys were proactive,” Aardema said. “I thought that we really competed hard on both ends, but I’m really happy holding them to 30.”

Reeths-Puffer (3-2) will open up OK Conference-Green play against Muskegon on Friday, Jan. 6.
