WHITEHALL — Whitehall’s boys basketball team pitched a shutout in the first quarter and cruised to a 72-24 victory over visiting Manistee on Tuesday night.

The game was a West Michigan Conference Lakes Division contest.

The Vikings blitzed the Chippewas, 29-0, in the first period and cruised the rest of the way, outscoring Manistee, 25-7 in the second quarter for a whopping 54-7 lead at the half.
 
Whitehall cooled off somewhat in the third while the Chippewas picked their scoring up, but not enough to make a difference and cut into the Vikings’ margin.
 
The Chippewas outscored the Vikings, 17-10, in the period.
 
Camden Thompson hit 12-of-16 from the field and finished the game with 25 points to lead the Vikings. He also grabbed 22 rebounds. He also had five assists and two steals.
 
Viking Kal Koehler added 13 points on 6-of-9 shooting and he also gathered in six rebounds. Ca’mar Ready added 11 points, nine rebounds, three assists and four steals.
 
The Vikings shot 49 percent from the field (32-of-65) and outrebounded the Chippewas, 45-15, including a 20-8 advantage in offensive rebounds. Whitehall also had 14 assists and 11 steals as a team.
 
The Vikings (4-1, 2-0) return to action Wednesday night for a nonleague game at Zeeland West.
 
Manistee (0-5, 0-3) will host Shelby on Thursday night (weather permitting).
