WHITEHALL — Whitehall staved off several Manistee runs on Tuesday night and escaped with a 47-41 girls’ basketball victory.

The game was played in the West Michigan Conference Lakes Division.

The Chippewas led at the half by outscoring the Vikings, 13-6 in the first quarter and 10-8 in the second to build a 23-14 lead at the intermission.

Whitehall came back to outscore Manistee, 31-17 in the second half to pick up the victory. The Vikings had a 14-7 advantage in the third period to trim the Chippewas’ lead to 30-28 and they kept the lead the rest of the way.

“We let this one slip away,” said Manistee coach Kenn Kott. “The girls put themselves in position to win several times, but the shots didn’t fall. We played great defense in the first half, but had almost everyone in foul trouble.”

Libby McCarthy scored 19 points and grabbed eight rebounds to lead the Chippewas. Lacey Zimmerman added six points and seven rebounds.

Mariah Bialik scored six points and Jayna Edmondson five. Allison Kelley had seven rebounds.

The Chippewas (3-3, 2-2) hosts Ravenna on Tuesday in a conference cross-over game.

Whitehall (2-2, 1-1) hosts Ludington in conference game Friday.
