GRANT — Shaking off some rust from the holiday break, Grant powered past visiting Sparta, 60-45 in non-conference girls’ basketball action Tuesday night.

Matched up in a tough physical game with Sparta (2-5), the Tigers struggled to get their shots to fall in the first half.
 
Sparta led 25-18 at the half.
 
The Tigers gained the lead within the early minutes of the third quarter and finished the period outscoring Sparta, 21-6 and went into the fourth quarter with a 39-31 lead.
 
Julie Ashbaugh scored 29 points, grabbed six rebounds, picked off six steals and dished out six assists in yet another monster game for the Tigers.
 
It’s been a strong start for Ashbaugh, who is averaging 24 points, 10.7 rebounds, 4.3 steals and 3.3 assists a game through the Tigers’ first seven games.
 
Jocee Pluene contributed nine points and picked off six steals.

It was the Tigers second straight win and lifted them to a 5-2 record overall. Grant is home again Wednesday night (tonight) for a nonleague battle against Montague
