GRAND HAVEN–Emerson Berndt and Heidi Berkley combined for 31 points on Saturday and lead the Grand Haven girls basketball team to a 41-32 win over Spring Lake in the “Battle of the Bridge” contest.

Berndt ended up with a game-high 19 points while Berkley finished with 12 points for the Buccaneers.

Grand Haven got out of the gate with an 8-3 first-quarter lead, but the Lakers battled back to take a 14-13 lead into the half.

The third quarter had several lead changes with Grand Haven ending up with a 25-21 lead heading into the fourth quarter. 

The Buccaneers eventually iced the victory from the free-throw line by going 10-of-12 in the fourth quarter to secure the win.

Spring Lake was led by Tessa Britt with nine points and five rebounds.  Brooke Bolthouse added eight points, while Alexa Carter chipped in six points and eight rebounds.  Ella Andree had four points, six rebounds and three assists.
 
Grand Haven (9-4, 5-2) will host Zeeland West on Tuesday.
 
Spring Lake (6-6, 3-4) hosts Western Michigan Christian on Tuesday.
