PENTWATER — Falling into a 19-0 hole right off the bat, the Pentwater girls’ basketball team lost a West Michigan D League game to visiting Brethren, 52-20.

It was Homecoming for the Falcons, but other than the crowning of the royalty, there wasn’t much to celebrate for the home fans as the much bigger Bobcats dominated the game.

“Brethren has size and speed, and talent, and are a pretty solid team,” said Pentwater coach Joe Gorton. “It’s hard to find a weakness against them. They hit us pretty hard to start out the game. Their press hurt us, but a lot of our turnovers were still unforced. We are still working and striving towards minimizing the unforced errors.”

Offensively, the Falcons struggle to finish, and can’t afford to compound that with the turnover problem.

Despite it all, Gorton said the girls battled from start to finish and are staying positive.

Audrey Kieda scored seven points to lead the Falcons. while Jocelyn Richison added five.

The loss left the Falcons with a 5-9 record overall and 4-7 in the league with their next action scheduled for Tuesday against Marion in the WMD.
