NORTH MUSKEGON — Ash Olson, Auebre Johnson and Grace Sweet combined for 39 of Fruitport’s 40 points on Tuesday night.

In the end, the visiting Trojans posted a narrow 40-38 victory over North Muskegon, which led the game for much of the night.

North Muskegon enjoyed a 22-19 lead at the half before Fruitport came back to capture the nonleague victory.

Olson finished with 15 points, followed by Sweet and Johnson with 12 each. Olson sparked the Trojans in the final quarter with seven of her 15 points.

North Muskegon was led by Emma Buchmiller with nine points and seven rebounds. Kaylee Martin, who sang the national anthem prior to the game, finished with six points, five assists, four steals and three rebounds. Abbie Wiegers had six points and eight rebounds. Francine Vison added six points.

NM nearly pulled off the victory after Wiegers launched a 3-pointer just after the final buzzer that dropped through the net.

“The team played hard and worked well together,” NM coach Sarah Knuth said. “It’s too bad we fell short after leading for most of the game. Fatigue was a factor in the fourth quarter even with subbing quite a bit throughout the game.”
