MUSKEGON–The Muskegon Community College men’s basketball team snapped a two game losing streak on Saturday afternoon.

The Jayhawks came up with a big win over Alpena Community College by a final score of 97-61.

Injuries caused MCC to be without starters, Jacob May and Jacob Mueller, but the team was able to put together a solid performance.

MCC started off hot, shooting 59-percent from the field and 55-percent from beyond the arc. Despite being undersized, the Jayhawks were able to win the war on the boards 36-35.

The Jayhawks raced out to a 42-28 first half lead.

MCC came out in the second half still relying on its strong defensive play to extend its lead. The Jayhawks racked up a 55-34 scoring advantage in the final twenty minutes of play.

Vern Nash III (Muskegon) led all scorers with a game-high 26 points. Jadakiss Lewis (Kalamazoo) and Jarvin Graham (Chicago, IL) had 24 and 21 points, respectively. Lewis grabbed seven rebounds.

Other key contributors for the Jayhawks included Logan Manciu who tossed in 12 points and hauled down seven rebounds while Kaden George chipped in nine points and a pair of assists.

MCC (7-8, 1-0) is back in action on Wednesday evening when they travel to Delta Community College.
