SPARTA–The Kent City boys basketball team got off to a slow start on Tuesday evening and were forced to play catchup ball all evening against Sparta.

In the end, Sparta posted a 56-42 non-conference victory over the Eagles.

Sparta jumped out to 17-8 lead after the first quarter and held a 32-21 lead at the half by outscoring Kent City, 15-13, in the second stanza.

The Spartans held slight scoring advantages in both the third and fourth quarters, 13-11 and 11-10.

“We played with little intensity and no execution,” said Kent City coach David Ingles. “The main issue with this team is bringing it every day. I love them to death, but it is frustrating. We got it back to five points in the third quarter and then just completely lost focus.”

Jaret Jaramillo led Kent City with 14 points.
