GRAND RAPIDS–On a night when Kent City’s two main offensive weapons were struggling on offense, others stepped up.
 
The result was a non-conference victory over Covenant Christian with a come-from-behind 55-49 win.
 
Hailey Kamphuis led the Kent City offense with 18 points, including six 3-pointers. She also grabbed four rebounds. Savannah Miller hit double digits with 12 points, including three 3-pointers. Abby Pecynski scored nine points on three 3-pointers. She grabbed six rebounds and had three assists. In all the Eagles made good on 13 3-point shots which put them in MHSAA record books.
 
Maddie Geers was limited to just nine points, however, was a dominant force on the glass, grabbing a game-high 14 rebounds while dishing out four assists. Lexie Bowers was limited to seven points, but was a key contributor with six assists, five rebounds and four steals.
 
Covenant Christian led 10-8 after the opening eight minutes of action. Kent City found themselves in an unfamiliar situation trailing at the halftime break, 26-25.
 
The Kent City offense generated some momentum in the third period by outscoring the Chargers 16-8 to take a 41-34 lead entering the fourth quarter.
 
Covenant Christian held a slim 15-14 scoring advantage during the final eight minutes as Kent City held on for the win.
 
Lindsay Minderhoud led Covenant Christian with a game-high 20 points.
 
Kent City (10-2, 4-0) will host Reed City on Friday evening.
