MUSKEGON–The Muskegon Community College Lady Jayhawks raced out to a 20-6 first quarter lead and never looked back in their 62-35 win over Grand Rapids Community College on Wednesday.

The game was played in the Michigan Community College Athletic Association (MCCAA).

The Jayhawks went on to take a 34-19 lead at the half. MCC had a slim 14-13 scoring edge over the Raiders in the second quarter.

MCC secured the win with a strong second-half performance by outscoring GRCC 13-7 in the third period and 15-9 in the fourth quarter.

“I am very excited with the way our team played tonight,” MCC coach Jason Cooper said. “It was our best start this season.”

Calla Miller led MCC with a game-high 19 points and she grabbed eight rebounds. Karleigh Jeffries tossed in 16 points and hauled down nine rebounds and had three steals. Yuna Some chipped in 13 points and six rebounds.

The Jayhawks (12-5, 3-1) will travel to Petoskey on Saturday to take on North Central Michigan College. Game time is slated for 1 p.m.
