PORT HURON–The Muskegon Community College Lady Jayhawks hit the road on Saturday and returned with a 60-36 victory over the St. Clair County Skippers.

Both teams got off to slow offensive starts. The teams managed just seven first-quarter points. The Skippers led 5-2 after one quarter.

The Jayhawks found some offense in the second quarter and surged to a 24-10 scoring advantage and a 26-15 halftime lead.

MCC continued to extend its lead in the second half, outscoring the Skippers 19-9 in the third quarter and 15-12 during the final ten minutes.

 “It was a good win for us on the road,” said Jayhawks coach Jason Cooper. “We struggled early offensively but our defense was clicking. Very proud how hard the team played.”

Calla Miller led the Jayhawks with 21 points. Kayla Fisk tossed in 17 points and posted seven steals.

Karleigh Jeffries added seven points and eight rebounds. Kayla Fisk chipped in six points.

Muskegon Community College (8-4) travels to Kalamazoo Valley Community College on Wednesday.
