FREMONT — Keelyn Laird and Elianna Jeruzal scored 24 points between them as the visiting Ludington girls basketball team defeated Fremont, 50-20 to open the second half of the West Michigan Conference Lakes Division season Tuesday.
It was the Orioles’ fifth consecutive win.
Laird finished as the game’s high scorer with 14 points for the Orioles, while Jeruzal tossed in 10. Emma McKinley and Olivia Lynn scored eight points apiece.
Fremont was led by Jessica Bennett’s eight points and got six from Lily VandenBerg.
The Orioles’ vaunted defensive pressure limited the Packers to just three points in the first quarter while they scored 10 themselves. Ludington followed that with an 18-11 second quarter to build a 28-14 lead at the half.
Fremont outscored the Orioles by one point over the first five minutes of the third quarter, but Ludington finished with a 12-5 edge and led, 40-19 going into the fourth. Ludington had a 13-4 advantage in the final period.
“The girls gave a really good effort tonight,” said Fremont coach Wes Zerlaut. “Ludington’s size wore us down throughout the game, and things got away from us on the scoreboard. I didn’t feel like the final score reflected how well we battled tonight.”
Ludington (10-3, 7-0) returns home to host Oakridge in a conference game Friday night.
Fremont (4-11, 2-5) lost its fourth consecutive game. They will travel to Grant next Tuesday.
seems useless to comment when no changes are being made.. the front runner favorites are still playing almost the whole game.. while almost a full team sits on the bench and only play when we are down by a lot… that must help the confidence of those girls.. anyone paying attention can see this….
