NORTON SHORES — The host Western Michigan Christian Warriors raced out to an early lead on Friday and defeated rival Muskegon Catholic 53-14.

WMC led 11-2 after one quarter and extended it to 28-10 at the half.

Both teams had trouble finding the basket in the third quarter as WM Christian had an 8-4 advantage. In the fourth quarter, the Warrior defense kept the Crusaders scoreless.

Western Michigan Christian junior Ashley Folkema was the only player in the game to hit double figures. She scored 26 points. Sophomore Kirsten VanOrman added nine and junior Brooklyn Watts had six.

Muskegon Catholic was led by seniors Carrie Ladd and Claire LaVigne with five points each.

WM Christian hosts Muskegon Heights on Wednesday.

Muskegon Catholic travels to Tri-Unity Christian on  Tuesday.
