HESPERIA — After starting the season with five straight losses, the Shelby boys’ basketball team has now won two in a row.

On Friday, the Tigers rolled past Hesperia 64-30 in the West Michigan Conference Rivers Division.

It was the Tigers first win in the conference.
 
Shelby started fast, outscoring the Panthers, 16-8 in the first quarter and then enjoyed a 21-9 advantage in the second to roll into the half with a 37-17 lead.
 
With their offense firing on all cylinders, it was the defense’s turn to take center stage in the third quarter as it shut out the Panthers, 19-0 and took a 56-17 lead into the fourth. Hesperia outscored Shelby, 13-8 in the final period.
 
Bishop Lee led the Tigers with 18 points followed by Wyatt Dickman with 12 while Phillip Hayes added seven and Carson Claeys and Treylin Waller who scored six apiece.
 
Lalo Garcia was the Tigers leading rebounder with six boards, while Lee hauled down five. Mason Garcia and Lee were the top playmakers with six assists apiece, Claeys had four and Dickman two.
 
Mason Garcia also had five steals, Hayes three and Claeys while Claeys, Griffin Olmstead and
Dickman picked off two apiece for the Tigers.
 
Shelby had a solid night shooting, making 56 percent of its field goal attempts (28-of-50 and 2-of-5 from 3-point land) and finished 6-of-15 at the free throw line.
 
The Tigers (2-5, 1-3) returns to action Monday night when they host Newaygo in a non-conference game.
 
Hesperia (2-6, 1-2) has a road game at Ravenna next Thursday in a conference game.
