NEWAYGO — Newaygo got off to a good start and rode it to a 66-55 victory over visiting Ravenna in boys’ basketball Tuesday night.

 
After the Lions had jumped out to a nine-point lead, 22-13, at the end of the first quarter, Ravenna narrowed the gap to just six points, 33-27, at halftime.
 
The Bulldogs carried that momentum into the second half, outscoring the Lions, 17-11, in the third quarter to pull into a 44-44 tie.
 
Timely baskets and good free-throw shooting allowed the Lions to regain the lead and keep it down the stretch.
 
Josiah Long was the Lions’ leading scorer with 16 points. He also pulled down six rebounds. Caris Nelson followed with 12 points and dished out nine assists. Bryce Decker contributed 11 points and 10 rebounds.
 
Wyatt Young topped the scoring for the Bulldogs with 16 points. Dylan May and Carter Schullo each tossed in 11 points.
 
The Lions (4-3) have won three straight and travels to Grand on Friday for a Central State Activities Association contest.
 
Ravenna (1-4) travels to Mason County Central on Friday for a West Michigan Conference Rivers Division game on Friday night.
