SCOTTVILLE — Mason County Central won its second straight girls basketball game Friday night with a 56-17 victory over visiting Hesperia in the West Michigan Conference Rivers Division.

All doubt about the outcome was removed when the Spartans shutout the Panthers, 13-0 in the first quarter. The Spartans had a 9-7 edge in the second and took a 22-7 lead at the half.
 
The Spartans outscored the Panthers, 16-8 in the third quarter and led, 38-15 going into the fourth quarter, and outscored the Panthers, 13-2 in the final eight minutes.
 
Mallory Miller scored 11 points and dished out five assists. Wren Nelson also scored 11 points, and Grace Weinert had four assists and three steals. Charlie Banks and Peyton Welch each had six rebounds.
 
Mason County Central improved to 8-1 overall and 6-1 in the conference. The Spartans are next scheduled to travel to Fremont for a non-conference game Monday.
 
The Panthers fell to 1-9 overall and 0-6 in the conference. Hesperia is next scheduled to host Big Rapids Crossroads Academy in a non-conference matchup Tuesday.
