MUSKEGON HEIGHTS–The Muskegon Heights Tigers got by Muskegon Catholic Central on Friday evening by a final score of 55-48 in a non-conference contest played at Muskegon Heights.

Dismal shooting from the field was the downfall for Catholic Central as they went 9-for-40 during the first three quarters.

“We could not finish plays through contact, said MCC head coach Rob Recknagel. “Muskegon Heights was definitely tougher than we were tonight. We played hard at times but could not make enough plays to make up for our lack of rebounding and playmaking. We have to continue to work to finish plays in order to take the next step and win our games consistently.”

The Tigers got out to a 12-7 lead by the end of the first quarter. Catholic Central cut into the lead with a second quarter scoring edge, 13-11 to narrow the Heights lead down to 23-20 at the halftime break.

The Tigers increased their lead in the third quarter with a 15-10 scoring advantage. Both teams had their best offensive output of the game in the final eight minutes as Catholic Central outscored the Tigers 18-17 but the Tigers held on for the win.

Braden Gustin led the Catholic Central offense with 14 points and four rebounds. Bryan Convertini tossed eight points and grabbed seven rebounds. Chase Willer also chipped in with eight points while hauling down seven offensvie rebounds. Finn Maschino came off the bench and had four steals and five rebounds.

Muskegon Heights (2-8) will travel to Fremont on Monday, Feb. 6.

Muskegon Catholic Central (5-9, 0-2) will travel Byron Center Zion Christian on Tuesday.
