NORTH MUSKEGON–If you were looking for a girls’ basketball game to watch with a lot of offense on Friday night, North Muskegon was not the place to be.
 
North Muskegon and Ravenna combined for just 48 points.
 
North Muskegon eventually pulled out 26-22 West Michigan Conference-Rivers win over Ravenna.
 
“What an exciting defensive game,” said North Muskegon coach Sarah Knuth. “The atmosphere in the gym was awesome and the student section kept us energized and served as player No. 6.”
 
The teams were tied at 6-6 after the first quarter. North Muskegon held the upper hand in the second stanza, 6-1, to take a 12-7 halftime lead.
 
Both teams found some offense in the third period with the Bulldogs outscoring the Norse 12-10. North Muskegon held a 22-19 lead going into the fourth quarter.
 
Neither team had much offensive success in the final eight minutes with North Muskegon holding a slim one point (4-3) scoring advantage to preserve the win.
 
Marilyn Gaston led North Muskegon with six points. Georgia Skujins tossed in five points. Lauren Dahlquist had six rebounds while Francine Vinson grabbed five rebounds. Allie Jensen contributed four points and five rebounds.
 
“I am so proud of this team for their united effort tonight,” Knuth said. “We made adjustments that served us well tonight. When our shooting improves, we will win more games and our confidence will grow. No one knows the potential of this team and these players except the coaches who see them play every day.”
 
Emma Gilliard led Ravenna with six points while Addy Gilliard tossed in four.
 
North Muskegon (3-7, 2-4) will be back in action next Thursday when it hosts Oakridge.
 
Ravenna (3-5, 2-4) will travel to Grant on Tuesday evening.
