NORTH MUSKEGON — Host North Muskegon had a balanced attack on Friday night and defeated the Hesperia Panthers 44-14 in a West Michigan Conference matchup.

The Norse led 8-4 after one quarter and increased that to 18-4 at the half.

Grace Philpot led North Muskegon with 11 points and Layla Hurst added eight. Kaylee Martin had six points, five assists and three steals. Francine Vinson was the leading rebounder with 10, followed by Marilyn Gaston with nine and Lucy Fricke with seven.

Grace Weberg led Hesperia with eight points, including a pair of 3-pointers in the third quarter.

“We played our best third quarter of the season tonight,” said NM coach Sarah Knuth. “We often come out flat after halftime, but not tonight. Everyone on the team contributed. It was a fun game. Hesperia is having a tough season, but they kept playing hard and never quit at either end of the court.”
 
North Muskegon (4-10, 3-5) hosts Shelby on Thursday.
 
Hesperia (1-13, 0-7) travels to Holton on Thursday.
