NEWAYGO–The Newaygo Lions girls basketball team found the win column on Monday as they with a 47-19 victory over Big Rapids Crossroads Academy.

Newaygo jumped out to a 17-2 lead after the first quarter and extended that lead to 28-9 by the half.

The Lions continued to build on the lead throughout the second half.

Grace Painter led the Lions with 13 points, five rebounds and three steals.  Kija Westbrook had 10 points, six rebounds and six steals.

“Great win for the team tonight,” said Newaygo coach Nathan Thomasma. “I thought we did a good job of applying some pressure on defense and we moved the ball well offensively against their zone defense to get some open shots. The girls came out with some good energy and it showed.”

Newaygo (2-6, 1-3) plays Tuesday evening at home against Western Michigan Christian.
