MUSKEGON — Shelby’s girls basketball team used a dominating defense to rebound from a first-quarter deficit to forge a close 33-28 non-conference victory over Orchard View on Monday.

The victory snapped a three-game losing streak for Shelby.

It was the Cardinals getting the jump on the Tigers and opened an 8-4 lead after one quarter. But the Tigers battled back to take a 12-11 halftime lead.

Orchard View bolted back into the lead, 20-16, after outscoring the Tigers, 9-4, in the third period. But the Tigers answered with a 17-8 advantage in the final period.

Aubrey Klotz scored eight points and dished out five assists to lead the Tigers. Kendall Zaverl also scored eight points and Biloxi Lee hauled down 10 rebounds.

Shelby (7-8, 4-3) will travel to Oakridge on Tuesday.

Orchard View (1-14, 0-8) will host Wyoming Potters House Christian on Tuesday.
