SHELBY — Three players scored in double figures Friday night as the Shelby boys basketball team won its fifth straight game, 62-56, over visiting Oakridge in a non-conference contest.
Oakridge never led after the Tigers gained a 12-7 edge at the end of the first quarter. A 17-8 surge in the second quarter built Shelby’s lead to 29-15 at the half.
The Eagles made a bit of a run at the Tigers in the third quarter with a 19-16 scoring advantage, but it still left them trailing Shelby, 45-34 going into the fourth. Oakridge outscored the Tigers, 22-17 in the last period.
Bishop Lee scored 16 points to lead the Tigers, followed by Phillip Hayes with 15 points and Wyatt Dickman with 12 points. Lee also had 10 rebounds while Dickman hauled down six.
Mason Garcia was the Tigers’ top playmaker with five assists, Carson Claeys dished out three assists while Lee dished out four and Hayes had two. Hayes picked off two steals.
Shelby (5-5, 2-3) will host Mason County Central on Tuesday.
Oakridge (4-5) travel to Montague next Friday.
