SHELBY — Host Shelby won its fourth straight Thursday night with a 39-28 victory over Holton in a West Michigan Conference Rivers Division game.

The Tigers shut down the Red Devils defensively in the first quarter, opening the game with an 11-2 advantage after the first eight minutes.

Holton was able to find the basket a little more frequently in the second quarter, but the Tigers still maintained a 16-10 advantage in the low scoring affair.

Shelby held a 29-19 lead after three.

Interestingly enough, the Tigers did not have anyone score in double figures as Wyatt Dickman led with nine points and Bishop Lee along with Mason Garcia had seven apiece.

Garcia dished out five assists as the Tigers’ top playmaker, while Carson Claeys added three assists. Garcia came away with two steals.

Brodrick Flalek and Carter Brant each had 11 points for the Red Devils. Flalek also had five rebounds, and Nate Paseka added six rebounds.

“Shelby got off to a really nice start on us,” said Holton coach Keith Swanson. “We managed to hang around, just didn’t make quite enough plays. I’m pleased that our guys are continuing to work hard, and it continues to show.”

The Tigers (4-5, 2-3 WMC Rivers) resume conference play next Tuesday when they host Oakridge.

Holton (0-9, 0-3 WMC Rivers) hosts North Muskegon next Tuesday in another conference game.
