FRUITPORT — The Spring Lake boys used a strong start to carry them to a 51-35 basketball victory over the host Fruitport Trojans.

Coach Bill Core’s team raced off to an 18-5 lead after one quarter and maintained a double-digit lead throughout the game.

Spring Lake led 27-15 at the half and 32-22 after three quarters.

Carter Ball led the Lakers with 14 points while Zane Stahl added 14 points and nine rebounds. Eli Morrison recorded a double-double with 13 points and 12 rebounds.

Bode Anspach led Fruitport with 11 points while Ryan Bosch had seven.

“It was a disappointing result for us for sure,” said Fruitport coach Steve Erny. “We will continue to learn and grow. If we knock down some of our good looks early in the game, this game would have had a different feel to it. Spring Lake deserves a lot of credit for playing solid, all-around game.

“We competed hard but could not make up for a really bad first quarter offensively,” Erney said.

Spring Lake (6-4, 4-2) will travel to Allendale on Friday.

Fruitport (6-5, 3-3) travels to Hudsonville Unity Christian on Friday.
