NORTON SHORES–The Western Michigan Christian Warriors fell behind early and couldn’t crawl out of the hole in a 69-34 loss to Covenant Christian on Friday evening.

The Chargers led 18-8 at the end of the first quarter and 36-11 at halftime. The Warriors scored five straight points to open the third quarter, but it was to no avail as the Chargers continued to pour it on. It was 51-19 after the third quarter.

“Covenant Christian had strong helpside defense and made many three-pointers,” Warrior coach Sarah Koetsier said. “Our team had to work hard to find an open lane to the basket. We had a strong fourth quarter where we looked to get to the rim.”

The Warriors were led by Ashley Folkema with 13 points and seven rebounds. Kate Derdowski added 13 points and three assists.

WMC (3-4) will travel to Newaygo next Tuesday.
