HART — Molli Schultz and Aubrey Klotz combined for 25 points and the Shelby girls’ basketball team defeated Hesperia, 62-27, Monday night.

The game was the Division 3 district opener for the Hart district.

The Tigers got off to a strong start by outscoring the Panthers, 19-6, in the first quarter. Shelby had a 16-4 advantage in the second period and opened a 35-10 lead at the half.

It never got any closer as the Tigers rolled up an 18-9 third quarter lead to cruise into the fourth period holding a commanding 53-19 lead.

Schultz led the Tigers with 14 points and Klotz added 11. Biloxi Lee and Claire Gowell scored nine apiece and Kendall Zaverl chipped in with eight.

Kylie Brown hauled down nine rebounds and Lee had six. Zaverl had five steals and four assists. Schultz dished out four assists and Klotz had three assists.

Shelby (10-13) now plays Hart in the district semifinal at 7 p.m. Wednesday.

Hesperia finished 1-22.
