WYOMING–Muskegon Catholic Central gave league-leading Wyoming Lee a battle before the Legends escaped with a 69-58 win on Tuesday in an Alliance League contest.
 
Wyoming Lee held a slim 16-14 lead at the end of the first quarter. Catholic knotted the score at 27-all going into the half by outscoring the Legends 13-11 during the second quarter.
 
Wyoming Lee put some distance between themselves and the Crusaders during the third period with a 24-16 scoring advantage. Lee took a 51-43 lead into the fourth quarter. The Legends racked up a 18-15 scoring edge during the final eight minutes.
 
“Our team effort was great with major contributions from Bryan Convertini, Owen Lyonnais and Finn Maschino,” said MCC coach Rob Recknagel. “We stayed connected and had the game within five late in the second half. It was a high level effort from all of our guys, we came to compete tonight.”
 
Braden Gustin led MCC with 26 points, which included six shots from beyond the arc. He also had five rebounds and blocked three shots. Convertini tossed in 12 points and dished out four assists. Owen Lyonnais chipped in eight points and grabbed six rebounds. Finn Maschino contributed eight points and hauled down five rebounds.
 
Muskegon Catholic (6-12, 1-5) hosts Wyoming Potters House Christian on Friday.
