SPRING LAKE — The host Lakers bolted out of the gate quickly on Tuesday night and went on to defeat the Fruitport Trojans, 72-57.

The Lakers jumped out to a 34-19 halftime lead. The lead was extended to 22 points early in the third quarter, but Fruitport made a surge of its own and cut the deficit to 53-45 after three quarters. The Trojans scored 26 points a third quarter that included six 3-pointers.

In the final quarter, Spring Lake made 13-of-15 free throws to secure the victory.

Zane Stahl scored a career-high 20 points, added five rebounds, four blocks and three steals. Eli Morrison chipped in 15 points. Colin Burt had 12 and Zach Schlepp had 11.

Andrew Spyke and Bode Anspach shared top-scoring honors for Fruitport with 17 points each.
“We did not get off to a good enough start in the first half,” Fruitport coach Steve Erny said. “A positive was the run we were able to make in the third quarter, cutting a 22-point lead to eight. Our guys played hard until the end.”
 
Fruitport (12-8, 7-6) hosts Hudsonville Unity Christin at 7:30 p.m. Friday.
 
Spring Lake (11-8, 8-5) hosts Allendale on Friday.
