WHITEHALL — Points were at a premium on Thursday night at Whitehall High School.

In the end, the Fremont Packers earned a hard fought 30-21 victory over the Vikings. Whitehall led 3-2 after one quarter and 7-4 at the half. By the end of the third quarter, it was knotted at 12-all.

The floodgates kind of opened up in the fourth quarter and Fremont had an 18-9 advantage and took home the victory.

“Our defense and rebounding in the first half kept us in the game,” Fremont coach Wes Zerlaut said. “We got 19 shots and had nine offensive rebounds, but we just couldn’t put it in the basket.”

Lily VandenBerg led Fremont, winners of three in a row, with eight points and seven rebounds. Mia Clemence added seven points and Jessica Bennett added six. Olivia Hansen had four points and 11 rebounds.

“I was pleased with the girls’ perseverance to keep battling on each possession, despite that frustration,” Zerlaut said. “It wasn’t pretty tonight, but we found a way to win.”

Fremont (8-13, 5-6) travels to Manistee next Friday.

Whitehall (10-10, 3-8) travels to Manistee on Tuesday.
