GRAND RAPIDS–Things looked pretty bleak early on for Fruitport on Friday evening against Grand Rapids West Catholic.

The hosts jumped out to a 17-4 first-quarter lead before the Trojan offense came to life in a 55-37 OK Conference-Blue win.

Fruitport went on a 14-0 spurt to end the first quarter and led 18-17.

“The biggest positive to take from that was we were able to take the punch and stay solid and steady,” said Fruitport coach Steve Erny. “To come back and actually take the lead after the first quarter was a great response from our guys. Paschal Jolman and Ryan Bosch both were big sparks for us. Paschal was able to force some turnovers and convert them into points and Ryan was a force around the basket. Everyone who played contributed in important ways and it was a good team win.”

Fruitport extended their lead to 30-22 by the half and led 40-32 at the end of three.

Paschal Jolman led Fruitport with 13 points, five rebounds and five steals. Ryan Bosch tossed in 11 points while grabbing five rebounds.  Bode Anspach contributed nine points, four rebounds, four steals and three assists,

Fruitport (12-7, 7-5) will travel to Spring Lake on Tuesday.
