HART– Hart faced a difficult situation on Tuesday night.

Not only were the Pirates playing on back-to-back nights, but the opponent was a talented Morley Stanwood squad. On Tuesday, Hart prevailed 55-29 over the Mohawks.

“Playing on back-to-back nights is a tough task, but doing so versus a 10-2 Morley-Stanwood team whose only losses are to two Top 10 teams in Division 3 is a challenge,” said Hart coach Travis Rosema.

The Pirates came out strong and set the tone.  Seniors Aspen Boutell, Mariana VanAgtmael and Chloe Coker scored 12 of the first 16 points for the Pirates as they raced out to a 16-9 lead after the first quarter.

In the second quarter, it was Hart’s strong team defense that led the way as Morley-Stanwood was only able to score just one point in the quarter.  Offensively, Abby Hicks paced the Pirates by scoring with 10 of her game-high 20 points in the quarter. Hart put up 18 points in the second stanza as they built a commanding 34-12 lead at halftime.

The defense and unselfish play continued into the second half as the Pirates pushed the lead to as many as 35.

Hicks had eight steals, six rebounds and three assists. Mariana VanAgtmael tossed in 11 points, dished out three assists and grabbed five rebounds. Addi Hovey contributed seven points, five assists, nine steals, eight rebounds and six blocked shots. Aspen Boutellalso had seven points and five assists.

Hart (12-2, 7-0) will host Ravenna on Thursday.
