ALPENA–The Muskegon Community College men got off to a slow start on Saturday and never caught up in a 68-57 loss to Alpena Community College.

The MCCAA game was played in Alpena. The result means the teams split the season series.

The Jayhawks once again went with a big lineup in hopes of gaining an advantage inside against the smaller Lumberjacks.

The Lumberjacks started the game fast with a 7-0 run and went on to a 34-24 lead at the half.

In the second half, Jadakiss Lewis and Vern Nash III were able to get some offense going for the Jayhawks, but Alpena built its lead to 15 with 15:30 remaining.

The Jayhawks came within six points down the stretch, but the Lumberjacks made their free throws to secure the win. They held a slim 34-33 scoring edge during the second half over MCC.

Nash III led the Jayhawks with 13 points. Joining him in double digits were Lewis and Tate Stine with 12 points each. Lewis also grabbed six rebounds.

Other contributors for the MCC included Jacob May with five points and 11 rebounds. Brodie Fogus contributed six points and grabbed three rebounds.
