GRAND RAPIDS — The Kent City boys kept scratching and clawing their way back on Monday night.

After falling behind 23-8 after one quarter, the Eagles fought back and earned a 64-62 victory over host Grand River Prep.

In the second quarter, the Eagles outscored GR Prep to pull within 35-26 at the half. In the third quarter, Kent City enjoyed a 21-15 scoring advantage that left them trailing 50-47 with one quarter remaining.

In the pivotal fourth quarter, Coach Dave Ingles clawed their way to the victory.

“We got down by as many as 17 and kept scratching our way back,” Ingles said. “We finally took the lead with about 3 minutes left in the game.”

Down the stretch, Dylan Sutton canned 3-of-4 free throws to help the Eagles gain the lead.

Jaret Jaramillo led the Eagles’ balanced attack with 19 points. Josh Anderson scored 12 while Will Harrison and Seth Vanderwest each scored 10.

Kent City (9-6, 5-2) hosts Big Rapids Crossroads on Tuesday night.
