KENT CITY–Four Kent City Eagle wrestlers will be making the trek to the MHSAA Individual State Finals after their performances at the Division 3 regionals last weekend.

Sammy Anderson (106), Manny Hernandez (113), Carson Gorton (120) and Zane Kik (126) all qualified for state. The state meet is set for March 3-4 at Ford Field in downtown Detroit.

Anderson, a freshman, will take a 45-9 record into the meet. In the regionals, Anderson finished third place after defeating Easton Rosebush from Freeland, 4-0, in the final match of the day. Earlier this season, was the CSAA champion at the conference meet.

Hernandez, a junior, finished fourth at the regional meet after being pinned in 1:49 by Freeland’s Joseph Klopf in his final match. Hernandez (35-17) is a CSAA all-conference selection.

Gorton, a junior, will take a 47-10 record into his second state meet. Last week at regionals, he finished fourth after losing an 8-3 decision to Lake Odessa Lakewood’s Ashton Clark. Gorton is a two-time district champion and currently has a career record of 110-29.

Kik, a senior, has a 47-8 record this season. He finished fourth at regional after being pinned in 56 seconds by Portland’s Ethan Webert. Kik, is a two-time CSAA conference champion, two-time state meet qualifier and owns a 162-33 career record.  Earlier this season, he also recorded his 100th career pin.
