MUSKEGON–The Muskegon Community College Lady Jayhawks hosted Delta College on Wednesday evening and came up on the short, 58-54.

The game was played in the Michigan Community College Athletic Association.

The Jayhawks got off to a good start and led 12-8 after the first quarter. Delta College narrowed the gap to 26-24 by the half.

Delta College held scoring a 12-11 scoring advantage in the third period to cut the Jayhawks lead to 37-36 entering the fourth quarter. MCC couldn’t hold the lead down the stretch as they were outscored 22-17 in the final quarter.

The loss drops the Jayhawks into third place in the conference with six games remaining.

 “It was a tough game tonight,” MCC coach Jason Cooper said. “We didn’t play our best game.”

Emmerson Goodin led the Jayhawks with 15 points, eight rebounds and two steals. Kendall Zoulek tossed in 13 points and grabbed a team-high 12 rebounds and came up with three steals. Karleigh Jeffries chipped in 12 points, 10 rebounds, two assists and two steals. Calla Miller contributed 10 points, three rebounds, three assists and four steals.

The Jayhawks (14-7, 5-3) will take the court again at 1 p.m. Saturday at Alpena Community College.
