MOUNT PLEASANT–The Muskegon Community College Lady Jayhawks got off to a strong start, but could not sustain it in a 73-70 loss to Mid-Michigan College on Wednesday night.

The Jayhawks got off to a great start in the first half as they jumped out to a 26-19 lead after the first 10 minutes. MCC increased their lead to 44-29 at the half by outscoring the Lakers 18-10 during the second stanza.

MCC couldn’t maintain the lead they built as Mid-Michigan College closed gap to 54-53 by the end of the third quarter. Mid-Michigan had a 24-10 advantage in the third quarter.

The Lakers eventually took the lead in fourth quarter as they held the upper hand, 20-16, to secure the home victory.

 “It was a tough game on the road,” MCC coach Jason Cooper said. “We played a great first half, but didn’t have the same intensity in the second half.”

Calla Miller led the Jayhawks offense with 17 points, four rebounds, two assists and two steals. Kendall Zoulek tossed in 15 points to go with six rebounds and three blocked shots. Karleigh Jeffries chipped in 14 points and six rebounds while Emmerson Goodin contributed 11 points, 10 rebounds and three steals.

Muskegon Community College (13-6, 4-2) will host Kirtland Community College at 1 p.m. Saturday.
