MUSKEGON — After all its struggles this season, the Manistee boys’ basketball team finally seems to have put things together.

The Chippewas won its second straight with a narrow 53-50 victory over Orchard View Thursday night.

The game was a battle right off the opening tip.
 
Orchard View had the Chippewas back on their heels after taking an eight-point lead, 22-14, after the first eight minutes. Manistee managed to cut that down to five, 31-26, at the half.
 
The Chippewas continued their climb back with a 14-12 third quarter and the gap was only three, 43-40, going into the final period. Manistee pulled the game out with a 13-7 run.
 
Manistee’s Austen Halcome led three players in double figures with 15 points, while Jacob Scharp and Gunnett put in 11 apiece. Jeff Huber added eight points.
 
Ben Schlaff led the Chippewas with six rebounds and Scharp had five. Halcome came away with four steals, while Scharp picked off three and also had two blocks.
 
Brian Sewell scored 13 points to lead the Cardinals and Keith McAllister added eight.
 
The Chippewas (3-13, 1-7) returns home for a conference matchup with Whitehall on Tuesday.
 
Orchard View (2-14, 1-7) Lakes) travels to Shelby next Wednesday for a non-conference matchup.
