CUSTER — Despite facing the West Michigan D League leading Brethren boys basketball team Wednesday night, it seemed like a very winnable game for Mason County Eastern.

The Bobcats ruined any chance of that with a 23-5 scoring run in the third quarter and galloped to a 61-37 victory.

The Cardinals scored evenly with the Bobcats (7-6, 7-4 WMD) in the fourth period, with each team finishing with 16 points.

Eastern stayed with the Bobcats throughout the first half, trailing by just one, 12-11, at the end of the first quarter and was outscored, 10-5, in the second for a 22-16 deficit at the half.

Clay Shoup finished the game with 13 points to lead the Cardinals, while Nate Wing contributed 10 and Zach Howe chipped in eight.

Mason County Eastern (4-12, 4-8) is back on the hardwood Friday night when it travels to Mesick.
