GRAND RAPIDS–The Muskegon Community College Jayhawks men’s basketball team is fighting for one of two MCCAA tournament spots still available.

A berth in the tournament would extend their season, but a 95-78 loss to the Grand Rapids Community College Raiders didn’t help their cause.

Things looked pretty good for the Jayhawks in the first half with a 43-41 lead at the half. MCC had battled back from a nine-point deficit near the midpoint of the first half.

The Raiders. winner of both games against the Jayhawks, owned the second half with a 54-35 scoring advantage.

Vern Nash III led the Jayhawks offensive attack with 31 points, five assists, seven steals and four rebounds. Jadakiss Lewis tossed in 15 points, had four steals and four assists. Zalio Harris chipped in 12 points and eight rebounds. Jacob May contributed nine points and hauled down nine rebounds.

The Jayhawks (9-15, 3-7) hosts Bay College at 3 p.m. Saturday.
