FREMONT — Muskegon Heights and Fremont went right down to the wire on Monday night in a non-conference boys basketball game.

When the final horn went off, the visiting Tigers earned a 49-46 victory over the Packers.

“For the second game in a row we struggled to make shots,” said Fremont coach Wes Zerlaut. “We missed layups, free throws, jump shots, you name it.

Fremont was plagued by poor shooting from the field and the free-throw line,” Zerlaut said.

Fremont shot 30 percent from the field and made just 6-of-23 free throws.

“We did not come out with great focus or energy and fell behind early,” Zerlaut said. “We were able to fight back and take a one-point lead heading into the fourth quarter, but ultimately just could not make enough shots to win the game.”

Jaquan Mathews led Muskegon Heights with 19 points. Jonathan Moore added 15.

Jordon McDonald led the Packers with 26 points and nine rebounds.

Muskegon Heights (3-8) is off until Monday, February 20 when they will host Wesstern Michigan Christian.

Fremont (8-6, 3-4) will travel to Fruitport next Tuesday.
