MUSKEGON — The losing streak is over for the Muskegon Community College men’s basketball team.

On Saturday, the Jayhawks captured a 58-52 conference victory over Kirtland Community College and ended their five-game losing streak.

The Jayhawks led 29-23 at the half. Both teams put up 29 points in the second half.

Vern Nash III led Muskegon with 32 points, eight rebounds and four steals. Jadakiss Lewis added 17 points six rebounds, two assists and three steals. The Jayhawks welcomed back starter Jacob May, who missed the last five games due to injury.

Solid defense in the opening half by the Jayhawks limited Kirtland to just 23 points. MCC shot just 39 percent in the opening half, yet owned a six-point lead.

 Kirtland had the lead by four points with 4;53 remaining in the game, but the Jayhawks’ strong finish pr0duced the much-needed victory.

MCC (8-13, 2-5) hosts Delta Community College on Wednesday.
