NEWAYGO–In a fast-paced, back-and-forth game on Friday evening, the Newaygo Lions came up on the short end of a 79-74 score to Big Rapids.

The game was a Central State Activities Association matchup against the league-leading Cardinals, who are 9-0 in league play.

Big Rapids held a 44-40 lead at the half and extended it during the third quarter. Newaygo didn’t go away as they cut the Big Rapids lead to three points in the fourth quarter, however, the Cardinals held on for the win.

Newaygo was led by Bryce Decker with 19 points and seven rebounds. Caris Nelson tossed in 17 points and dished out eight assists. Josiah Long scored 15 points.  Remy Wells contributed nine points and Grant Harkness added eight for the Lions.
 
Newaygo (11-7, 6-3) will travel to Hart next Wednesday.
