FREMONT — The visiting Oakridge Eagles put together a late run on Thursday night and topped Fremont 40-37.

In that pivotal final quarter, the Eagles turned up the defensive pressure and erased a six-point deficit to earn the victory

Oakridge grabbed a 16-8 lead after the first quarter, but the Packers battled back in the second quarter. The Eagles led 22-21 at the half.

Fremont built an eight-point lead in the third quarter, but by quarter’s end, the lead was down to four. From there, the Oakridge defense took over.

Anna Lundquist led Oakridge with 18 points and a game high 17 rebounds. Destiny Lane added nine points and seven rebounds.

Jessica Bennett led the Fremont offense with 12 points and Lily VandenBerg added eight. Mia Clemence added seven points and five rebounds. Maite Corbal Romera added six assists and five rebounds.

“We competed very well,” Fremont coach Wes Zerlaut said. “We played hard. The girls continue to give great effort and energy. They really got after us defensively in the fourth quarter and we struggled to get shots.”

Oakridge (12-4, 6-3) visits Western Michigan Christian on Friday.

Fremont (5-13, 2-6) hosts Montague on Tuesday.
