PENTWATER — Will Werkema-Grondsma and Jonny Arnouts combined for 29 points and the Pentwater boys’ basketball team upset West Michigan D League-leader Brethren in a thrilling 48-47 victory Monday night.

Arnouts led the Falcons with 15 points and Werkema-Grondsma tossed in 14 points. Werkema-Grondsma also pulled down 12 rebounds, dished out seven assists and had three steals.

Arnouts contributed five rebounds and two assists. Kaleb Brown scored 10 points and had two assists.
Mikey Carlson had six rebounds to go with five points, Trey Johnson had five steals, four rebounds and four points.

Brethren came into the game undefeated (15-0) in the league and was looking to sweep the season series with the Falcons after winning an earlier game with the Falcons, 58-54.

It was a makeup game from several weeks ago.

Feeding its big man inside, Brethren forged a tight 14-10 lead after one. But the Falcons pulled into a 21-all tie at the half.

Arnouts scored 10 points in the third quarter and helped keep the Falcons in striking range. Pentwater trailed, 35-34, going into the fourth quarter.

Pentwater grabbed a two-point lead in the final minute of the game, but the Bobcats tied it with a pair of free throws.

Werkema-Grondsma raced down the floor and was fouled attempting a layup with 13 seconds left. He missed the first free-throw attempt, but made the second.

Pentwater made one final defensive stop and Arnouts scooped up a rebound after an off-balance shot to seal the win.

The Falcons (9-10, 9-6 WMD) are back in action Wednesday night at Mason County Eastern.
