BEAR LAKE — Pentwater wasn’t a very obliging guest for Bear Lake’s homecoming game Friday night.

Pentwater defeated the Lakers 67-49 in a West Michigan D League boys basketball game.

The Falcons lost to the Lakers in their first meeting, but came into the game looking for their third straight win. The Falcons started strong with a 10-2 advantage in the opening quarter.

Scoring was considerably higher, and much closer, as the Falcons pounded out an 18-16 advantage to take a 28-18 lead into halftime.

Will Werkema-Grondsma fueled the Falcons offense with seven points of his 11 first-half points coming in the second quarter. Also contributing to the offense was Kaleb Brown, who scored seven in the first 16 minutes.

Pentwater didn’t slow down in the second half and broke loose on offense for a 25-13 third quarter. That pushed the Falcons’ cushion to a 17-point margin, 43-26.

The Falcons then converted on a sharp 12-of-13 free throws in the fourth quarter. They finished with a 24-23 edge in the final eight minutes.

Werkema-Grondsma produced a double-double to lead the Falcons with 13 points and 14 rebounds. He also dished out seven assists, had three steals and three blocks.

Jonny Arnouts fired in a team-high 18 points and had three assists, Brown finished with 10 points, six rebounds and two assists. Mikey Carlson contributed 10 points and five rebounds.

Pentwater (6-10, 6-6) travels to Big Rapids for a WMD contest against Crossroads Academy on Wednesday night.
