SCOTTVILLE — Mason County Central’s boys basketball team got rolling early on Thursday night and raced past Holton, 68-40, in the West Michigan Conference Rivers Division.

The Spartans, playing at home, pretty much decided the issue with a big 20-3 scoring advantage in the first quarter, and rolled into the half with a 35-14 lead. They outscored the Red Devils 15-11 in the second quarter.

Mason County outscored the Red Devils, 17-15, in the third quarter and entered the fourth period with a 52-29 advantage. A 16-11 edge in the fourth quarter finished it off.

Jayden Perrone had another big night for the Spartans with 15 points and nine rebounds. Will Chye finished with 14 points, while Braylin Thurow added eight points. Landon Smith had seven points and seven rebounds.

Carter Brant scored a game-high 20 points for Holton, while Jayce McMillan contributed eight points.

“We got off to a really slow start tonight,” Holton coach Keith Swanson said. “Credit MCC for making things very difficult. That said, our guys didn’t hang their heads and really played four quarters. Carter Brant put together another outstanding night on the offensive side for us.”

The Spartans (12-4, 6-2) will host Onekama in a non-conference game Monday night.

Holton (0-16, 0-8) hosts Hesperia on Tuesday in a conference matchup.
