WALKER — A slow start cost the Western Michigan Christian girls dearly on Friday night in a 49-31 loss to GR Covenant Christian.

The host Chargers led 29-8 at the half. The Warrior regrouped in the third quarter and put up 10 points in 3 minutes. However, Covenant led 42-23 after three quarters.

“We had a slow start to the game tonight,” Warrior coach Sarah Koetsier said. “Our shots were not falling in the first half. We switched up some things on defense and had a solid second half.”

Ashley Folkema led WMC with 21 points and six rebounds. Brooklyn Watts had four rebounds and four steals. Maria Eenigenburg had four blocked shots.

WMC travels to Fruitport Calvary Christian next  Thursday.
