MUSKEGON — The host Reeths-Puffer Rockets celebrated their seniors on Tuesday night and later, celebrated a 54-45 victory over rival Mona Shores.

“It was Senior Night and our five seniors started and got us off to a great start,” said Rocket coach Nate Aardema, whose team led 17-5 after one quarter and 35-14 at the half. Kyle Schlaff had eight points in the first quarter to spark the early Rocket uprising. Schlaff finished with 13 points.

Mona Shores did battle back in the second half with a 31-19 scoring advantage, but the damage had already been done. Puffer’s biggest lead was 25 points.

Rocket junior Jaxson Whitaker set the school record for career 3-pointers. He now has 144 in his career.

“He is absolutely the best shooter I have ever coached and now he can say he is the best shooter in the history of R-P,” Aardema said. Whitaker finished with 14 points, including four 3-pointers.

Jordan Bledsoe led Mona Shores with 16 points. Paul Ritter added 11.
 
Reeths-Puffer (11-8, 8-5) will host Holland on Friday.
 
Mona Shores plays at Muskegon on Friday.
