SPRING LAKE –The Spring Lake boys swimming team found the going tough in their final meet of the regular season on Tuesday.

A shorthanded Lakers squad struggled against Zeeland West and fell, 122-53.

“This was a tough meet to step up and compete well,” said Laker coach Nick Zacek. “We were down over a dozen of our athletes and hit some other obstacles even before the meet started.”

Despite the loss, Jonah VanDreumel posted his seventh win of the season in the arm stand dives.

Garret Abel swam to a season-best time in the 500 free.

Patrick Goran and Liam Krass swam to personal bests in the 100 free while Matthew Daudelin earned a personal best in the 50 free and 100 free.

“The silver lining here is that I’m glad we get this out of our system now before our final meet as a full team next weekend with the conference championship,” Zacek said. “We need to step it up big time, but with everyone back (Wednesday) and our taper slowly approaching its peak, we can still get there.”

Spring Lake will gear up for the OK Tier 1 Conference championship at Hamilton on Feb. 24-25.
